It has been a much blessed start to the week, the highlights beginning with an excellent church service at Aksarben Village Senior Living on Sunday afternoon. There were exquisite song presentations on the screen (“Savior, Like A Shepherd Lead Us” by Hymns of Grace, “I’m Gonna’ Make It” by Sisters, and “Blessed Assurance” by First Baptist Dallas’ orchestra, choir, and congregation); a brief but interesting sermon about Rufus’ mom and other maternal heroines in the Bible (“And My Mother Too” — Romans 16:13); and then sharing wonderful “mom stories” with the residents over coffee and colorfully-decorated cookies. It was a really swell time. A second highlight came on the way home when we learned that the Lord had granted Larry Harold the strength for he and Deb to once again make a visit to Estes Park, Colorado. That was terrific news. Thank you, Father. And then the day ended with conversation and prayers on our deck which, at this time of year and with the serene beauty of our backyard, is an especially pleasant place.

And then Monday saw a “When Swing Was King” show at one of our favorite sites, Legacy Arbor down in Lincoln. What a super show our May edition is and what a warm, enthusiastic reception it received. Then it was a nice lunch at Cook’s Cafe with Harold and Mary Dee Berry, dropping off material to Paula Peasley whose “Seams for a Cause group” is making Vital Signs Ministries some new banners for our public pro-life witness, a bit more reading of George Patton’s “War As I Knew It,” and another inspiring season of conversation and prayer on the deck.

And so we’re on to today – another “When Swing was King” show, lawn projects, some correspondence duties, and the regular Tuesday Zoom conversation this evening with some of my siblings. A very good start to the week.

But be doers of the word,
and not hearers only.
